Creating a brighter future for our children
Rally to Read is an extra-ordinary story of caring, collaboration and hope – of things intensely human. It’s an example of creating true partnerships and making a real difference in Rally to Read’s primary focus of promoting literacy at grassroots level, in remote rural schools across South Africa. For more than two decades, Rally to Read, in partnership with the Department of Education, has worked tirelessly alongside corporate and private sponsors to deliver books, teaching aids, Grade R educational equipment and toys, as well as other much-needed resources to these schools.
Now, every donation goes double the distance…
Our lead partner, The Jonsson Foundation, has promised to match all new 2020 sponsorships, RAND FOR RAND, up to a total of R500 000! Jonsson’s pay-it-forward gesture can potentially make a huge dent in our target…

Rally to Read is an extraordinary story – of caring, collaboration and hope.
Our rural schools in South Africa are unfortunately amongst the most under-resourced and disadvantaged in the country. The focus of the Rally to Read is to bridge the gap between rural and urban schools, providing teachers and learners access to quality resources and training, with the aim of helping to improve literacy levels.
The Rally to Read provides an opportunity for sponsors to visit some of our most remote rural communities to deliver resources on Rally Day. This offers Rally participants a unique chance to interact with teachers, learners, and community members, affording our sponsors a better insight into rural life. But most of all, the Rally delivers hope to rural learners, their teachers and their parents for a better future.
